Financial Aid On Your Bill

Your bill reflects financial aid offered by the Office of Financial Aid and viewable on your student account on SIS. You may need to take some additional steps to apply this aid to your account and reduce the balance you must pay Rensselaer. You may also be expecting aid that is not included on your bill. Any questions about the following should be directed to the Financial Aid Office.

New York State TAP for undergraduates

If you are an eligible New York resident, you must apply to the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation using (undergraduate) school code 0635. Use only your current estimated TAP award listed on your financial aid certificate to reduce your payment. An undergraduate student must be registered for at least 12 credits during the fall and spring terms and for 6 credits during the summer sessions, in order to be eligible for TAP.

Perkins and Stafford Student Loans

You must sign and return the promissory note or notes mailed to you over the summer (new students) or included with your renewal award before this aid can be applied to your account.

PLUS Loans for Parents

PLUS loan applications are mailed to new students with their aid packages and to returning students with the renewal aid awards. Once your PLUS Loan has been pre-approved, your parent will receive promissory notes. These notes must be signed and returned to the lender before this aid can be applied to your account.

College Work-Study

These earnings are paid directly to students when hours are worked. If you have a work-study award, it does not appear on your bill and will not be used to reduce your balance.
