Financial Aid On Your Bill
Your bill reflects financial aid offered by the Office of
Financial Aid and viewable on your student account on SIS. You
may need to take some additional steps to apply this aid to
your account and reduce the balance you must pay Rensselaer.
You may also be expecting aid that is not included on your
bill. Any questions about the following should be directed to
the Financial Aid Office.
New York State TAP for undergraduates
If you are an eligible New York resident, you must apply to
the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation using
(undergraduate) school code 0635. Use only your current
estimated TAP award listed on your financial aid certificate to
reduce your payment. An undergraduate student must be
registered for at least 12 credits during the fall and spring
terms and for 6 credits during the summer sessions, in order to
be eligible for TAP.
Perkins and Stafford Student Loans
You must sign and return the promissory note or notes mailed
to you over the summer (new students) or included with your
renewal award before this aid can be applied to your
PLUS Loans for Parents
PLUS loan applications are mailed to new students with their
aid packages and to returning students with the renewal aid
awards. Once your PLUS Loan has been pre-approved, your parent
will receive promissory notes. These notes must be signed and
returned to the lender before this aid can be applied to your
These earnings are paid directly to students when hours are
worked. If you have a work-study award, it does not appear on
your bill and will not be used to reduce your balance.
