The Controller's Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, State and Local tax regulations. The Tax Department serves as a resource to the Institute faculty, staff and students on tax issues, ensures timely and accurate filing of tax returns, and develops necessary procedures and reporting systems to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations. The Tax Department also advises international students and scholars on tax treaty benefits, tax withholding and reporting requirements, and provides guidance to departments regarding payments to vendors from other countries.
See the November 2023 presentation on Tax Compliance at RPI for a summary of the types of taxes to which the Institute is subject.
